Ryū Seishin Budō

Dragon Spirit Martial Arts

Where Warriors are forged.

About

Ryū Seishin Budō is a Dojō founded on the principles of Bushidō, The Way of the Warrior (Nitobe, I., 1900). These principles are the moral and ethical principles that the Samurai lived by. The Knights of the western world also had a similar code,  known as Chivalry.

These principles are embedded in everything we do. From bowing at the beginning and end of class, to respect for other students regardless of age, gender or rank.

Integrity - Respect

Courage - Honour

Compassion - Honesty and Sincerity

Duty and Loyalty - Self Control

This view is also expressed in the name of the Dojō. Dragon Spirit or Spirit of the Dragon. The dragon is a guardian of buddhism, and protector of the seven celestial gods (Shinto).

The dragon is also said to be an enlightened being having endured the struggles of life as a snake, then as a Koi carp before becoming a dragon. While a dragon is a mythical creature, and we are not dragons, we can still aspire to embody the spirit of the dragon.

About the Style

The style taught is known as Anderson Bushi Kai. Its founder being Kin Shinden Malcom Anderson. Historically, ABK as it is affectionately known, has its roots in Go Ju Kai Karate Dō as taught by the father of Australian martial arts, Tino Cebrano (OAM), a student of Gōgen Yamaguchi, the founder of Go Ju Kai.

As a result, Japanese karate is at the core of the ABK curriculum. Other influences in shaping the ABK curriculum have come from Kin Shinden Malcom’s study of the martial arts. Muay Thai, Escrima (Filipino martial arts), and Okinawan kobudo (martial weapons) just to name a few.
