Ryū Seishin Budō

Dragon Spirit Martial Arts

Where Warriors are forged.

Chief Instructor

Brett’s love of the martial arts started with an introduction to Tong Long (Chinese Southern Praying Mantis) in the 1970s. It wasn’t until the mid 1980s that Brett became addicted when he was introduced to Zen Do Kai by a fellow Tong Long student. Brett progressed to 3rd degree blackbelt before there was a split and he followed his teacher to continue his studies under Anderson Bushi Kai.

Brett was honoured with the rank of 7th degree blackbelt in 2024 and the title of Hanshi by the founder of Anderson Bushi Kai, Kin Shinden Malcom Anderson. He has described it as a very unexpected and humbling experience.

Brett has also been studying the Japanese sword (Katana) in the style of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryū from about 1998 and Filipino martial arts (stick, knife and machete) in the style of Cacoy Cañete Doce Pares from about 2016. He incorporates the teachings of these arts into his classes. He also a student of the way of the Jo (120cm stick) and the way of the Kama (sickle) .
